Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi, who was recently released from prison, has reportedly been advised by some family members and senior opposition figures to temporarily put his political activism against President Yoweri Museveni’s government on hold. According to claims circulating in political circles, the advice is linked to concerns about his safety following his release.
Sources claim that those close to Kivumbi want him to take a break from active political engagements for some time. They reportedly believe that reducing his public political activities could help him avoid further trouble as he deals with the challenges surrounding his legal situation.
Kivumbi is reportedly facing treason charges, although the latest status of the case requires confirmation through official court records. His release from prison has drawn attention to what lies ahead for him politically and whether he will resume his opposition activities.
According to the claims, Kivumbi is also under round-the-clock security surveillance as he awaits further developments in his case. However, it has not been independently established whether security agencies have confirmed the alleged surveillance or explained its purpose.
Ritah Kaggwa Blog has reportedly learnt that security operatives are investigating whether Kivumbi had any connection to images of alleged safe houses that circulated on social media. The images reportedly showed Ugandans allegedly suffering abuse in detention facilities said to be linked to the Special Forces Command (SFC).
The images were reportedly circulated by former Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence operative Col Mabonga, who is said to be in hiding. However, the information provided does not establish that Kivumbi was involved in producing, obtaining or distributing the images, and the reported investigation should not be taken as proof of his involvement.
The claims further allege that President Museveni is concerned about Kivumbi’s political activities because he has allegedly refused attempts to compromise him. These assertions about Museveni’s views and Kivumbi’s influence have not been independently verified, and no confirmed statement from the President has been provided to support them.

Despite the reported advice to pause his activism, Kivumbi’s future political direction remains uncertain. Whether he resumes his activities or takes time away from the political scene may depend on his own decisions and the progress of his legal case. Any response from Kivumbi, his lawyers, the government or security agencies would help clarify the claims surrounding his release and current circumstances.
