The Catholic Church in Uganda is mourning the death of Rev. Fr Charles Lwanga Ssewava, a senior priest of the Archdiocese of Kampala and former National Director of Radio Maria Uganda.

Fr Ssewava died on the evening of Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Lubaga Hospital in Kampala, according to an announcement from the Kampala Archdiocese.

At the time of his death, Fr Ssewava was serving as the parish priest of Kiwatule Parish, where he had continued his pastoral ministry before his passing.

The announcement was made by the Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, through the Archdiocese Chancellor, Fr Pius Male Ssentumbwe. The Church called on priests, religious and the faithful to pray for the deceased priest and his family.

The specific medical condition that led to Fr Ssewava’s death has not been publicly disclosed by the Archdiocese. Reports therefore confirm his death and place of death, but do not establish that the death was mysterious.
