Our Friend Ruto William Will Not Allow That Nonsense- Gen Muhoozi Breaks Silence On Demonstrations Plans In Kenya For Kizza Besigye

Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has commented on planned demonstrations in Kenya concerning the continued detention of Ugandan opposition politician Dr Kizza Besigye.

Muhoozi responded after Kenyan activists announced plans to demonstrate in Nairobi over Besigye’s detention and the circumstances surrounding his transfer from Kenya to Uganda.

“Demonstrations in Kenya for Besigye? Our friend H.E. Ruto will not allow that nonsense,” Muhoozi posted on X, referring to Kenyan President William Ruto.

The comments come as Kenyan activists continue to demand answers from their government over what happened to Besigye after he disappeared in Nairobi in November 2024.

The activists say they want the Kenyan government to explain how Besigye was taken from the country and subsequently appeared in Uganda, where he was initially brought before a military court.

Their concerns have turned the Besigye case into an issue involving both Uganda and Kenya, with activists arguing that questions surrounding his transfer should be addressed by Kenyan authorities.

The planned demonstrations have also focused on Besigye’s continued detention in Uganda and calls for his release and access to medical treatment.

On September 19, 2026, Kenyan human rights defenders announced plans for another demonstration in Nairobi, scheduled for Monday, September 21. They said they wanted explanations from the Kenyan government concerning Besigye’s transfer.

The activists said the protest would target the Office of the President and other government institutions as they seek clarification on the circumstances surrounding Besigye’s disappearance from Nairobi.

Earlier demonstrations had already taken place in Nairobi, with protesters marching through the Central Business District and presenting their concerns to Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The campaign has been driven by Kenyan activists who say Besigye’s case raises broader questions about Kenya’s sovereignty and the protection of people on Kenyan territory.

Some of the activists have also demanded an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his transfer to Uganda.

Besigye’s legal case in Uganda has meanwhile continued, with the opposition politician facing treason-related charges alongside his co-accused Hajji Obeid Lutale and Captain Denis Oola.
