Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has issued another warning to State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere, giving her a fresh 72-hour deadline to apologise to him or face possible removal from her ministerial position.

The latest warning was issued on September 20, 2026, according to reports carrying Muhoozi’s latest post on X. The new ultimatum comes only days after the General had given Nameere seven days to apologise or face unspecified consequences.

In his latest message, Muhoozi directly addressed the minister and made his demand clear, saying that she had exactly 72 hours to apologise to him.

“Nameere, has exactly 72 hours to apologise to me. If she does not I will remove her from her ministerial post,” Muhoozi wrote, according to a reproduction of his post.

The fresh statement has increased attention around the continuing disagreement between the two figures, particularly because the new deadline is shorter than the seven-day period Muhoozi had announced earlier.

On September 16, Muhoozi had said that Nameere had exactly seven days to apologise to him, warning that failure to do so would have consequences. Reports at the time said the seven-day deadline was expected to expire on September 23.

The latest 72-hour warning therefore represents a new development in the dispute. Rather than waiting for the earlier deadline to run its course, Muhoozi has now publicly issued another, shorter demand directly to the minister.

The disagreement follows controversy surrounding videos involving Nameere that circulated online. One of the clips appeared to show the minister making remarks that could be interpreted as being directed at Muhoozi.

However, reports about a longer version of the video said Nameere was actually addressing Patriotic League of Uganda Secretary General Daudi Kabanda rather than Muhoozi. The shorter clip reportedly omitted the part that identified Kabanda as the person being addressed.

The video controversy subsequently became a major source of tension between Nameere and Muhoozi, with the General publicly warning that the minister could lose her Cabinet position if he considered her conduct to amount to misconduct.

“If Nameere is misbehaving, it’s a very simple problem. We shall remove her from the cabinet. That’s a very simple thing,” Muhoozi had written on September 15.

Muhoozi later expanded his comments to speak about possible changes within government. He said that ministers who were not serving the interests of Ugandans could be dropped or reshuffled during the current political.
