Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has issued a warning to another retired senior military officer, saying security forces will capture him wherever he goes after one of the generals he referred to as a “dancing general” was reportedly arrested.

Muhoozi made the remarks following reports that retired Major General Abel Kandiho, a former Chief of Military Intelligence, had been picked up by security operatives from his farm in Gomba District.

The arrest of Kandiho came shortly after Gen Muhoozi publicly warned retired military officers who attended a farewell event at State House after retiring from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

The UPDF commander had criticised the retired officers who were seen celebrating and dancing during the farewell ceremony, describing them as “dancing generals” and warning that some of them had unresolved matters.

Following Kandiho’s reported arrest, Muhoozi said security forces had managed to capture one of the generals he had referred to and warned that more action would follow.

“We have captured one of the dancing Generals. Another one will be captured soon,” Muhoozi said.

In another statement, Muhoozi appeared to refer to another retired general whom he claimed was hiding at one of his farms in Gomba District.

“Another Gen is running for his dear life in one of his farms in Gomba. He might try escaping to Rwanda. We shall capture him wherever he goes,” Muhoozi said.

The statement has attracted attention because of the senior position held by the officers being mentioned and the public nature of the warnings issued by the country’s top military commander.

Maj Gen Abel Kandiho previously served as Chief of Military Intelligence, one of the most sensitive positions within Uganda’s security establishment.

During his time in military intelligence, Kandiho became a well-known figure in Uganda’s security circles due to his role overseeing military intelligence operations.

Reports indicate that Kandiho was arrested from his farm in Gomba, although authorities have not yet publicly provided detailed information about the circumstances surrounding the operation.

Another former military intelligence chief, Brig Gen Charles Bakahumura, was also reportedly arrested, although details regarding where and how he was detained remained unclear.

Bakahumura previously served as Chief of Military Intelligence from 2012 to 2017 before taking on other senior responsibilities within the UPDF.

He later served as Chief of Logistics and Engineering and also represented Uganda as a defence attaché in Turkey.

The developments have sparked discussions about the relationship between current military leadership and retired senior officers who previously held influential positions.

Muhoozi’s comments suggest that the security leadership is closely following the activities and movements of some retired generals following the controversial farewell event.

The warning has also drawn public attention because of the reference to a possible escape route through neighbouring Rwanda, although no evidence has been publicly provided regarding such plans.

Security authorities have not yet released detailed statements explaining the reasons behind the reported arrests or whether the officers face any formal charges.

The situation remains under public scrutiny as Ugandans wait for more information about the fate of the retired generals and whether additional arrests will follow.

For now, Gen Muhoozi’s message remains clear that security forces will continue searching for the officers he believes need to answer questions, saying they will be found wherever they go.
