Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has turned his attention to The Observer newspaper, questioning how the publication will conduct its reporting following his recent exchanges with major Ugandan media outlets.

In a post attributed to him on X, Gen Muhoozi wrote: “Observer is Semujju’s newspaper, isn’t it? Let me see how they behave.” The comment appeared to refer to former Kira Municipality MP and journalist Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, who previously worked with Daily Monitor before joining active politics.

The statement has attracted attention because it comes amid increased public discussion about the relationship between Gen Muhoozi and Uganda’s media. Recent reporting has documented tensions involving the military chief and Daily Monitor, while NTV remains part of the same Nation Media Group.

Ssemujju Nganda has a long background in journalism and politics. He previously worked at Daily Monitor before entering elective politics, and recent reports continue to identify him as a prominent political figure who has spoken publicly on issues concerning governance and the rule of law.

Gen Muhoozi’s reference to The Observer has therefore raised questions about whether the newspaper could become the next media organisation to attract his attention. His wording, however, did not specify any particular article or report by The Observer that he was responding to.
