By Nasuru Hassan Ocen | Kaberamido district council has approved the list of students admitted to public universities under the District Quota System Scheme for the financial year 2025/2026.
The approval of six students was made on Friday during the main council meeting chaired by council speaker James Eisu.
The beneficiaries will pursue different academic disciplines at Makerere and Kyambogo Universities under government sponsorship.
The admitted students include Rafael Eyetu and Felix Ochen, both from Midland High School, who will pursue Bachelor of Computer Science, Benjamin Erupu from Kaberamido Secondary School, admitted to a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.
Amuge Jane from St. Thomas Girls Secondary School is admitted to a Bachelor of Arts in Education. All four students will study at Makerere University.
The other beneficiaries are Allan Mpaire from Midland High School, who will pursue a Bachelor of Vocational Studies in Arts and Design with Education, and Phoebe Ameso from St. Thomas Girls Secondary School, admitted to a Bachelor of Business Administration. Both students will study at Kyambogo University.
The secretary for education and health, Damelie Ajubu, applauded the administration of Midland High School, St. Thomas Girls Secondary School, and Kaberamido Secondary School for excelling in producing competent candidates who secured government sponsorship.
Ajubu further challenged the beneficiaries to double their efforts at university and produce excellent results at the end of their academic journey.
Meanwhile, the secretary for finance and administration, Fredrick Oboi, who also doubles as the area councillor for Okike sub-county, urged parents to send their children to schools within the district if they want them to benefit from government opportunities such as the District Quota Scheme.
Simon Ekwanyu, who represents persons with disabilities, appealed to the government to consider establishing a special education grant for children with disabilities to ensure inclusivity in higher education opportunities.
The same council sitting also approved a supplementary budget worth shs165 million toward the completion of Swagere Seed Secondary School in Ochero sub-county.
