Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Eng Jonard Asiimwe, has donated shs100 million to support the stalled construction of the Hoima regional mosque and completion of the Bunyoro-Toro Muslims regional office in Hoima City.
The Minister’s financial support was meant to help in purchasing paints, tiles, and bags of cement for the construction of the multi-million structure.
Other areas of financial support included the construction of Buhikya primary classroom and computer sets for Bwikya Muslim secondary school, among others.
According to him, the donation is among other mandates of serving and solving the needs of the country’s citizens, but also promoting hearts of sharing.

“It’s not just a donation but rather a commitment towards serving our communities, but also as a sign of thanksgiving and showing hearts of sharing what we have,” the minister se said
He, however, warned committees in charge of the project to protect the resources jealously to ensure that all works are successfully done.
He also called on unity among them, saying it is a key foundation in community development.

“It’s only unity that promotes development,” he said.
Hoima district Khadi, Sheikh Rajab Mugeny, said that the mosque will serve as an institution, driving development of over 350,000 muslim communities across the Bunyoro-Toro region.
According to him, the construction of the shs400m structure commenced in 2020. “…it got stuck due to financial constraints,” he revealed, thanking the minister for the donation.

Rajab noted that so many interventions have been put in place, including fundraising and individual contributions, to ensure completion of the structure, the efforts which remained insufficient.
“Over 350,000 muslim communities across Bunyoro-Toro have always contributed money towards the construction of this office but have reached a point of getting stuck. We therefore appreciate the donation from our minister,” Rajab emphasised.

Speaking about the status of the mosque, he said that it is of high need to construct the mosque since it will also “accommodate 2027 AFCON international players due to its proximity to the stadium.”
He further noted that in 2020, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni pledged to support the construction of the Bunyoro mosque ahead of AFCON.
According to Khadi, the promise has remained unfulfilled up to yesterday.
