Hoima’s nursing school wanting: MoE, Enabel intervene with €1.2m for skills lab construction

HoimaThe Ministry of Education and Sports in partnership with Enabel, through Arch Design Consultants have intervened to bridge access to improved health practical skills by establishing a mass storied skills lab building at Hoima school of nursing.

The construction is part of the intervention to provide reliable learning spaces to improve academic competence amongst the young health professionals through practical skilling.

A €1.2 million project will be implemented by King Albert construction company.

Frank Waibale, the project infrastructure expert at Enabel revealed that the Belgian Kingdom together with the government of Uganda is implementing a “we train for health project” aimed at improving the skills of health care givers in Uganda.

Waibale, however, also revealed that the project which will cost 1.2 million Euros will benefit Hoima school of nursing and midwifery in Hoima, Bunyoro.

It will also benefit other two health schools including Allied College of Health Professionals in Fort Portal.

He added that the multistoried building will be built under phases with the first phase expected complete within the 12 months.

“This is aimed at providing adequate space for the healthcare givers to learn practical skills,” Waibale notes.

Edward Lwanga, the Hoima city clerk pledged full support to ensure the pending building plan of the structure is approved.

Marc Kalanzi, the Principal of Hoima School of Nursing noted that once complete, the building will enable the institution to produce better nurses and midwives.

“The facility will help provide enough conducive health practical learning space for nurses and midwives before they move to outside hospitals,” he noted.

Hoima city mayor Edward Insingoma, said that the establishment of the project will have ripple effects to the city including beautifying the city, attracting tourists and investors to in the city.

Patrick Mugabi, the workers’ councillor at Hoima city council, appealed to the contractor to ensure they pay on time the casual labourers they will employ.
