Kole North Member of Parliament, Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti, has contributed shs4.5 million towards the expansion and renovation of St. Paul Aboke Catholic Parish.
The donation, which was made in the form of over 100 bags of cement valued at shs4.5 million, is aimed at supporting the church’s ongoing development efforts.
The parish, located on Abongodero Hill in Aboke, Lira Diocese, is now seeking an additional shs100 million to complete the project.
In a phone interview with tndNews, Uganda, on Monday, August 3, 2026, Dr. Acuti explained his decision to support the church’s expansion, noting that church leaders are working to raise a total of shs124 million to finish the work.
The donation was officially presented during a fundraising event held on July 26, 2026, at Abongodero Primary School, which is situated on the same hill as the parish.
Dr. Acuti called on Christians from all backgrounds to unite in building God’s house, emphasising the biblical principle that God rewards those who care for His work.
“I encourage everyone to join hands so that we can complete this project without segregation, offering whatever gift God has blessed you with,” he said.
He also highlighted the parish’s strategic location, surrounded by notable institutions including St. Mary’s Aboke Girls Secondary School, St. Joseph Seminary, and Aboke Mission Health Centre.
Rev. Fr. Kiilu Mwololo Kennedy, the parish priest of St. Paul Aboke, reflected on the church’s history, noting that it was established over 60 years ago and has not undergone any major renovations since.
He pointed out that several parts of the structure are now in a dilapidated state. “Due to the growing number of Christians, the current church can no longer accommodate all the faithful. That is why we have come up with the idea to expand and renovate it,” he explained.
Fr. Mwololo expressed his gratitude to Dr. Acuti for standing with the parish during this challenging time and offered his blessings to the legislator.
He revealed that while the total cost of the expansion and renovation is estimated at shs124million, the parish has so far raised over shs26 million.
He appealed to other well-wishers to come forward and support the “Christ Life Movement” initiative, praising Dr. Acuti for dedicating his time and resources to church activities.
The fundraising event was presided over by Monsignor Rev. Fr. Polycarp Opio, who represented the Bishop of Lira Diocese, Rt. Rev. Santus Linos Wanok.
In his address, Fr. Polycarp Opio noted that St. Paul Aboke Catholic Church was built 60 years ago when the Christian population was much smaller, making the current expansion both necessary and timely.
Fr. Polycarp Opio called for unity, peace, and forgiveness among the faithful to ensure the successful completion of the project.
“Let us avoid segregation and division. Let us have one voice, for we are all people of God,” he urged, emphasizing that collective effort is essential to realising the church’s vision
He reminded the Christians that while expanding the church building is important, it is equally vital to renew the domestic church—our families.
