Amolatar district local government has officially appointed executive committee members, who are potentially set to serve for 5 years.
In a council meeting chaired by the district council speaker, Geoffreey Oyuku, the district chairperson, Ogwal Moris Omara, named his executive team to oversee key administrative functions.
Ogwal appointed Margret Olul, councillor representing older persons, as the district vice chairperson—a decision warmly approved by the council.
Policap Ogang, councillor for Etam town council, was appointed and approved as secretary for finance and administration.
Meanwhile, Mike Awio, representing Muntu sub-county, took on the role of secretary for works and technical services.
Akello Harriet, female councillor of Agikdak, was named secretary for health and education.
All the above-mentioned are members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
Chairperson Ogwal urged the newly appointed officials to avoid complacency, warning that their performance will be closely monitored by the community based on clear expectations.
He emphasised that the appointments were carefully balanced across the district’s four major sub-counties, expressing confidence in their abilities to diligently serve the people.
At the same council sitting, Okello Francis Momentum of Amolatar town council became chairperson for works, while Apio Molly Grace, female councillor for Abeja sub-county, was elected chairperson for health.
However, selecting the chairperson for finance stirred tension among council members.
Opposition members argued that the position should go to Ayuli Jimmy Okori from Acii sub-county after missing out on previous appointments.
The contest intensified when Alum Vicky, female councillor for Namasale sub-county, was nominated to run against Ayuli.
After a heated debate, a vote was held with Ayuli Jimmy Okori winning 18 to 12 votes.
Policap Ogang expressed gratitude to the LC5 chairperson for “entrusting him with the finance portfolio, pledging dedication and diligence in his work.”
Margret Olul vowed to focus on service delivery and ensure community resources reach the people who need them most.
Mike Awio highlighted his commitment to road construction projects and efficient use of allocated funds.
Councillor Kizito Okwir of Aputi praised the chairperson’s efforts to appoint the secretaries and affirmed the council’s readiness to collaborate fully.
He also made a commitment to advocating for his sub-county’s interests and ensuring resource distribution matches community needs.
Okwir noted the successful implementation of the restocking initiative in Amolatar district, describing it as “a positive achievement.”
