“This is a significant milestone for the university. It strengthens our capacity in teaching, research, and community engagement while enhancing our contribution to regional and national development,” Onono said.
He noted that for many years, the university faced challenges arising from a limited number of senior academics in several disciplines.
However, he described the promotions as a strong indication of institutional growth and academic excellence as the university concludes the 2025/2026 financial year.
Onono explained that the promotion process is rigorous and is overseen by a committee chaired by deputy vice chancellor academic affairs Prof. Okello Davy David Owiny.
He supported by external peer reviewers to ensure transparency and academic integrity.
Currently, Gulu University employs 657 staff members, including 273 academic staff, 150 administrative staff, and the remainder serving in various support roles.
