On June 13, 2026, the Uganda Peoples Congress, said it successfully concluded a hybrid extra-ordinary meeting of the National Council (NC).
The meeting was held both physically at the party headquarters—Uganda House in Kampala—and virtually across the country.
During this event, members of the party cabinet, UPC Members of Parliament, district executive committee chairpersons, and various district leaders came together to deliberate on key issues facing the party, Arach Orach Sharon, party spokesperson said.
The participants commended UPC President Jimmy James Michael Akena for his unwavering determination and tireless efforts that resulted in the party securing notable leadership positions in the 2026 general elections.
The above success, the party said, was achieved “despite challenging circumstances.”
Arach said NC adopted several critical resolutions. First, it officially recognised Honorable Jimmy Akena as the legitimate party president in accordance with the UPC Constitution.
The council warned against any individuals falsely claiming leadership roles without proper authorisation, holding such persons accountable for their actions.
Additionally, the party accepted and forwarded the report of the UPC President on the party’s status to the upcoming Delegates Conference for further policy guidance.
The council also committed to continued cooperation with the Inter-Party Organisation for Dialogue, IPOD, aiming to foster unity and advance the welfare of Uganda’s people.
Additionally, the party leadership vowed to safeguard the UPC’s symbols, including its flag and logo, promising strict action against anyone misusing them.
A 14-day consultative period was set, inviting delegates to submit recommendations in writing or via recorded videos to the Secretary General’s office. These will be compiled for consideration at the delegates conference.
