The former students of Kotido Secondary School are championing the resource mobilisation for the construction of the school wall fence and a modern gate.
Kotido SS, the oldest secondary school in the district, is currently surrounded with barbed wire fence that is worn out with several openings used by the students who escape without permission.
The old students have since conducted several fundraising drives to erect a wall fence to improve on the security of the school, control rampant escape of students and fight encroachment from the neighboring communities.
The fund raising was launched early this month and registered significant progress with parents, teachers, students, churches and other well-wishers contributing both in cash and in kind.
Agnes Dengel Lokochil, a district councillor-elect who also doubles as vice chairperson of the alumni association, says that their motivation is to give back to the school.
She said the school has made them who they are today and pledged commitment to completing the project.
Ochero Susan, the treasurer of the OBs and OGs association, said they managed to mobilize 69 bags of cement, 13 trips of sand, 2 spades, shs893,000 all in pledges and shs293,900 in cash during the launch.
She added that they have also raised shs420,000 from membership subscription and are expecting to raise over one million from membership subscription.
According to her, they have lined up several fundraising activities to mobilise resources among them and some are writing proposals, selling cooperate wears, organising cooperate matches, conducting masses in churches, conducting radio talk shows and having joint dinners, among others.
Each new entrant to the school is also expected to contribute a bag of cement to support this course.
Emmanuel Lokedi, the head teacher of the school, appealed to all stakeholders and development partners to embrace the project and give in their full support for the benefit of the future generation.
Meanwhile, he applauded the generosity of the OBs and OGs for their support to the school.
The construction of a modern gate is expected to get completed in June 2026, while the fencing is expected to be completed in 2029.
