ApacThe Police in Apac district have commenced an investigation into a case of murder by a mob of a 22-year-old man.

Onyolo Ambrose was a resident of Pama-Munu cell, Oyoo ward, Arocha division, Apac municipality.

SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, PRO of North Kyoga region, on June 1, stated that preliminary reports indicate that on May 31, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m., the deceased was allegedly picked from his grandmother’s home by Abic, son of Akullu Ajuc, together with others.

Okema said the group reportedly accused the deceased and another unidentified accomplice of stealing a mattress and demanded that they reveal its whereabouts.

It is alleged that the mob severely assaulted the two suspects during the process. “As a result of the beating, Onyolo Ambrose succumbed to his injuries, while the whereabouts of his alleged accomplice remain unknown.”

The incident was reported to Apac Central Police Station on June 1, 2026, where a team of police officers led by D/ASP Ayebazibwe Jove visited the scene.

On June 1, SP Okema said further documentation was being conducted by the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO).

Relevant witnesses have been interviewed and statements recorded. The body of the deceased was retrieved and conveyed to Apac Main Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination.

Police say no arrests have been made so far, and investigations are ongoing.

Police strongly condemn acts of mob action and urge members of the public to always hand over suspects to lawful authorities for investigation and prosecution.

Taking the law into one’s own hands, SP Okema said, is a criminal offence and undermines the rule of law.
