The City Police intervened and the PRO of North Kyoga Region, ASP Patrick Okema issued a statement:

MALICIOUS DAMAGE IN LANGO COLLEGE LIRA-CITY WEST DIVISION. Note: This statement has been edited.

The territorial police in Lira-City West Division are investigating riots that engulfed Lango College.

It’s alleged that on the 22nd of July 2022 at around 2215 hours, a phone call was received from the Head Teacher of Lango College that the students were rioting.

It was established that one student identified as Obim Emma who was earlier on expelled from the College was sighted at the school in the fateful night hence, the Teacher on duty and the askari apprehended him and took him to Lira-City west Division for Criminal trespass, and in solidarity, his colleagues responded in the violent act and also demanded for Holidays and yet they are to start exams on Monday.

Hence they caused destructions, broke into school canteen and looted items, also 6 Motor Vehicle’s screens were destroyed, i.e. Reg No UAW 813 U, UAQ 823A Nadia, UG 158E ( School Lorry), UAJ 488M, UAX 297G, and Motorcycle Reg No UDV 191Y and widows of the School Dining Hall too.

Upon reaching school, most students were out of the school and a physical headcount was conducted.

Deployment was maintained by the DPC to ensure a peaceful environment.

A case file of malicious damage has been registered at Lira-City West Division Police.

The scene was visited by a team led by DPC and other officers.

Relevant details obtained, photographs of damaged Vehicles, Motorcycle, canteen and Dinning hall were taken.

BOG and School administration to sit and come out with a concrete decision for action.

This is a very unfortunate incident, it’s a sign that the students are very lazy and not willing to learn.
