Hoima police stranded with 70 motorcycles impounded during theft operations

Police in Hoima Central Division of the Albertine Southern Region have remained stranded for a long time as over seventy motorcycles impounded during different series of security operations on theft remain unclaimed.

The motorcycles which have stayed in the police parking yard for half a year now seem to lack owners, according to Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Julius Allan Hakiza

Hakiza noted that the seventy motorcycles which have remained stuck in the hands of police are part of over one hundred fifty motorcycles impounded from December 2025 to date in the usual security operations.

“Generally, we had arrested 150 motorcycles including bajaj boxers in our usual security operations on motorcycles. However, currently, we have remained stuck with 70 of them and no one is coming to claim their ownership,” he said.

And most of those motorcycles were impounded within Hoima Central Division, he said.

The law and order keepers say they have since failed to get owners in spite of their efforts on community awareness about the existing motorcycles in their yards.

“We have used different media channels including radio waves to inform communities but still we have not been seeing them,” he told tndNews, Uganda.

While owners are reminded to reach the police station to reclaim their assets, ASP Hakiza urged them to have the right documents to prove their ownership.

“Security efforts have led to a notable decrease in motorcycle theft across the region,” he revealed.
