MP Okot donates 140 iron sheets to two Kole South institutions

The newly elected Member of Parliament, Eng. Boniface Okot has lobbied for iron sheets from the Office of the Prime Minister.

The MP, who is currently serving his final days as the incumbent northern Youth MP, has already managed to source over 140 iron sheets for his new constituency in the short period since his election.

While handing over the donation to the management of Dam Atria Primary School in Bala sub-county, Eng. Boniface Okot explained his motivation. “I have done this following the heavy rains that blew off the roof of a classroom block where our children were accessing free learning.”

Okot stated that following a request from the school’s management, Dam Atria Primary School would receive 35 iron sheets. “This is so that the roofing can be done, allowing our young generation to continue their studies well, whether it is the rainy season or dry season,” he said.

He urged the community to view the gesture as development, not politics. “I want the community to know that there is no politics in this developmental progress. I know that a school is where everyone accesses learning, and a church is also a place of worship for our God.”

Due to a similar challenge faced by another institution, Aputi Church of Uganda in Abeli Parish, Akalo sub-county, also benefited from the initiative. According to the MP, the church received 25 iron sheets.

Eng. Boniface Okot promised to continue lobbying for more projects from various offices.

“Officially, when the new term of the 12th Parliament kicks off, I am going to move from door to door and office to office, seeking projects for all the people of Kole South, including with my personal support,” he pledged.

While receiving the iron sheets, the deputy head teacher of Dam Atria Primary School, Jasper Oscar Ogung, praised the MP. “Okot is a true leader,” he said. He assured the community that the materials would be used for their intended purpose.

“No one is going to divert these iron sheets. As a school, we are going to sit down with the board and work immediately to roof the classroom block that was hit by heavy rain last year.”

“Dam Atria Primary School has a total enrollment of over 1,602 learners, and I know when this roofing is completed, we are still going to get more pupils. This is the first of its kind happening in Kole South,” he added.

“Therefore, I am appealing to all our parents to love education for their children; let us value education for our children.”

Opio Jacob, the vice chairperson of the PTA, who also witnessed the handover, expressed appreciation for the MP. He encouraged all parents to bring their children back to school.

“Let us bring them back to school because Hon. Okot has addressed this pressing matter. Some children are still at home digging with their parents.”

Rev. Geoffrey Ocen, who blessed the iron sheets, also used the platform to pray for MP Boniface Okot following his electoral victory. “I know the 12th Parliament will start very soon, but what Okot has already done within two months shows the potential of elected leaders,” he said.

Rev. Ocen also called for unity and teamwork. “Because the elections are over, we must work together for the betterment of our community. Let us now avoid division and support all our elected leaders.”
