The territorial police in Alebtong district are investigating a case of murder by assault.

The crime, which occurred on February 7, 2026, at approximately 11 pm at Te-Iconga village, Kai parish, Akura sub-county, Alebtong, was reported to Akura Police Station by Okeng George, OC CID Akura Police Station.

The deceased is a male adult identified only by his nickname “Bye Bye.” SP Jimmy Patrick Okema said he was a resident of Anai, Lira City West Division, Lira City.

Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder. The suspects are Amure Ambrose, Ojok Oscar, Obot Andrew, and Okello Solomon.

It is alleged that on the night of February 7, 2026, a traditional wedding ceremony was taking place at the home of Amai Odero in Te-Iconga village.

“The function reportedly attracted a large number of people, including individuals from Lira City who had not been invited,” SP Okema stated.

The deceased was among this group, he added. “It is further alleged that he and his colleagues consumed alcohol and later became involved in a violent altercation. During the fight, the deceased was assaulted and struck with stones.”

Police officers who had been deployed to provide security at the ceremony intervened and found the victim lying unconscious. He was checked and found lifeless at the scene.

The individuals suspected of being directly involved in the assault were immediately arrested. The OC CID Akura took over the matter and registered it as a case of murder at 1 am for further investigations.

Statements were recorded from witnesses and from the owner of the home where the ceremony was held.

Stones suspected to have been used as murder weapons were recovered and kept as exhibits.

The body of the deceased was conveyed to Alebtong Health Centre IV Mortuary pending postmortem examination.

“This is quite an unfortunate incident,” the PRO said. “On many occasions, the uninvited are the ones who cause problems at a function. We encourage people to avoid going to a function when not invited to prevent such a situation.

“Otherwise, we shall do all it takes to ensure justice prevails for the deceased.”
