Ex-boyfriend leaves Dokolo for Lira City, stabs ex-lover, his brother to near death

Lira

Love turned sour and near fatal as two ex-lovers confronted each other in Lira City West Division, Lira City.

It is alleged that in February 2025, Kia Ritah, 21, a BBA year two student at Lira University and a resident of Akii-Pe Cell, Barapwo Ward, started a love relationship with Oceng Daniel, 25; a resident of Dokolo district.

During the course of the relationship, Oceng reportedly developed violent and cruel behaviour, leading to their separation in November 2025.

After the separation, Kia reportedly entered into another relationship with Ojimam Samuel Engemu. Her ex-boyfriend allegedly continued making phone calls to Kia. On several occasions, the calls were answered by Ojimam Samuel Engemu, which reportedly angered the suspect.

On February 4 at about 4 pm, the suspect again called Kia’s phone and it was answered by his new lover, Engemu.

“A verbal exchange allegedly occurred, which further annoyed the suspect,” SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, PRO for North Kyoga Region said.

Oceng is said to have immediately travelled from the Dokolo district to Kia’s residence in Barapwo Ward while armed with a knife. At about 7:50 pm on Wednesday, he allegedly grabbed Kia Ritah from behind and cut her on the neck.

Kia managed to resist, broke free, and ran away while raising an alarm, SP Okema narrated. In the process, her brother, Odongo Emmanuel, 19 and a student at Lango College, pursued the suspect.

Oceng, who was later arrested, allegedly turned on the 19-year-old and stabbed him several times, causing serious injuries.

“Neighbours responded to the alarm and managed to arrest the suspect as he attempted to flee from the scene. Both victims were rushed for medical attention and are currently admitted to Lira University Teaching Hospital.

SP Okema said police visited and documented the scene of the crime, and statements have been recorded from the reporter and other relevant witnesses.

Police medical examination forms (PF3) were issued to the victims. The suspect is in lawful custody pending further investigations.

Inquiries are ongoing, SP Okema stated. He also revealed that police were recording additional witness statements, obtaining medical reports, reconstructing the scene of the crime, and recovering the knife allegedly used in the attack as an exhibit.

“This is a very unfortunate incident. We condemn the acts of violence committed by the suspect. We appeal to lovers to accept decisions always made by partners as long as you have a weird behaviour that can’t be tolerated,” the PRO advised.

Once the investigation is complete, the file will be compiled and submitted to the Resident City State Attorney for perusal and legal guidance.
