tndNews, Uganda, understands that at least 55 animals and 7 turkeys were slaughtered on Christmas Day in Dokolo town council, Dokolo.
Denish Odongo, the chairperson of the Dokolo Butcher’s Association, spoke to our reporter in the morning at his office in the Dokolo town council.
He said they slaughtered 55 animals and 7 turkeys.
More animals, he said, were expected to be slaughtered by mid-morning.
Odongo explained that they slaughtered 14 cows, 19 goats, 22 pigs, and 7 turkeys. He stated that they maintained the prices at shs16,000 for beef, shs18,000 for mutton, shs18,000 for goat’s meat, shs18,000 for pork, and shs20,000 for turkey per kilogram, respectively.
Dokolo town council, Odongo revealed, did not register any cases of animal theft due to constant sensitisation to butchermen about the danger of practising the bad act, which can affect their business.
He appealed to people to build good relationships and love in their families, further encouraging people to celebrate Christmas at their various homes, not in trading centres.
Ronald Ogwang, Veterinary Officer incharge Dokolo town council, said all animals slaughtered were thoroughly inspected and passed out for human consumption.
He appealed to the public to avoid buying meat from untrusted butchers, which may pose a risk to their health.
Christmas Day was celebrated across Uganda and the world with festivities going beyond prayers in the morning at different Churches.
