Bobi Wine vows to restore Zoka Forest, expand youth skills training

National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has promised to prioritize the restoration of Zoka Central Forest Reserve and expand skills training for youth if elected president.

He made the remarks while addressing a large crowd at Cesia Primary School playground in Adjumani.

Kyagulanyi accused President Museveni of centralizing power and public resources within his inner circle, saying key national positions and assets have been captured for personal benefit.

He cited the First Lady’s appointment as Minister for Education and Gen. Salim Saleh’s influence over national budget decisions. He also alleged that security forces deployed in Zoka Forest have facilitated rather than prevented environmental destruction.

“When I talk about Zoka Forest, the people of Adjumani know exactly what I mean. In the new Uganda, we want to empower the sons and daughters of the soil. They will not destroy the environment. We shall restore Zoka Forest to its original form,” he said

Some residents welcomed Kyagulanyi’s promises but urged him to remain accountable. Mr. Atidri from Zoka said corruption is deeply entrenched both nationally and locally, and called on Kyagulanyi to walk his talk if elected.

A young resident, who identified himself only as Raster, expressed concern over rising unemployment: “We youths have no jobs, many of us are not educated. How are you going to help us?”

Zadiman Tondali from Adjumani Town criticized the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM), saying it has created divisions in families and offers only temporary relief.

He appealed to Kyagulanyi to replace cash handouts with long-term investments such as modern agricultural machinery. Kyagulanyi echoed this sentiment, describing the PDM’s trillion-shilling budget as a campaign gimmick meant to keep citizens dependent.

“For those who have received the money, good for you,” he said. “But in the new Uganda, you will not have to give it back. We want to give hands up, not handouts.”

Kyagulanyi promised that an NUP government would prioritize youth skilling programs to improve employability. In the short term, he pledged to bring skills training closer to communities. In the long term, he said the government would invest in cottage industries to create sustainable jobs.

“We know our young people are unemployed and, in many cases, unemployable,” he said. “We must change that.”

The rally ended with residents hopeful yet cautious, urging the NUP leader to deliver on his promises should he take power.
