Elections 2026: MP Olobo ‘Dubai’ leaves Amolatar for Kaberamaido

Amolatar District Electoral Commission Returning Officer Irene Hope Nakiru, on Thursday, referred Onyum Denis, National Unity Platform (NUP) party flagbearer for the Kyoga County MP seat, to the Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala over his “unclear academic documents for Senior Six (S6).”

Nakiru, speaking to journalists shortly after sending Onyum to Kampala, stated that she had failed to understand Onyum’s academic papers.

She said from the look of things, the MP aspirant appears to have done only one subject in ‘A level’, advising him to seek assistance from the Electoral Commission headquarters to clear him.

She, however, commended the two-day nomination exercise, which started on Wednesday, October 22. The Returning Officer described the exercise as done “successfully and smoothly without any interference.”

Nakiru confirmed that out of 13 aspirants who had booked to be nominated, only two were not nominated. Incumbent Kyoga North MP James Olobo Dubai, the Returning Officer said, was nominated in Kaberamaido district as Kaberamaido County MP candidate.

Another aspirant the Commission failed to nominate was NUP’s Onyum.

Onyum spoke to tndNews and blamed failure for not getting nominated to “his party affiliation.”

He added that because he came in as a NUP supporter and flagbearer, that could be the reason. “I got my certificate from UNEB after sitting senior six from Amolatar Senior Secondary School,” he said.

Assistant RDC of Amolatar, Sarah Tyan, commended candidates for holding a peaceful nomination. She asked them on Thursday to carry the same spirit when they head for the campaigns

Four were nominated on Thursday: Atala Lillain for district woman MP on an independent ticket, Auma Jennet Okao for woman MP on a UPC ticket, Akom Dorcus for woman MP on an independent ticket, and Rtd. Col. Honorary Doctor Francis Ongia.

On Wednesday, seven candidates were nominated:

Okodo Peter for Koga North, Dr Agnes Atim Apea, woman MP (incumbent), Carlos Opul for Kyoga County, Collins Angwech for Kyoga County.

Others were Okot Bitek Moses, for Kyoga County (incumbent), Felix Adupa Ongwech, for Kyoga County and Geoffrey Ocen ‘Kiring’ for Kyoga North (incumbent LC5 chairperson).
