Kole district LC5 chairperson Andrew Moses Awany was officially nominated on Wednesday as an independent candidate for Kole South Parliamentary seat in the 2026 general elections.
The nomination was conducted by Kole District Returning Officer Niwasiima Rhinny at the Electoral Commission offices at 9:45 am.
Niwasiima confirmed that Awany had fulfilled all necessary requirements set by the Electoral Commission, making him eligible to contest.
Speaking to journalists after his nomination, Awany expressed strong confidence in his electoral prospects.
“Being the first to be nominated means I will also be number one in the general election. No one will defeat me,” he declared.
The incumbent district chairperson, who will be running as an independent candidate, pledged to effectively represent the people of Kole South in Parliament if elected.
The stage is now set for a competitive race in Kole South with incumbent Northern Uganda youth MP Boniface Okot also nominated to unseat Peter Ocen Akalo.

Speaking of his nominated rivals, MP Ocen Peter said: “This is now the walkover. I don’t see any big matter in the upcoming general election for my opponent. What I have done for over 10 years will speak for me.”
