Bank of Uganda empowers PDM, CDO leaders in Kaberamido district

By Nasuru Hassan Ocen | Bank of Uganda has trained over 50 leaders, including Parish Development Model (PDM) leaders, Community Development Officers (CDOs), and religious leaders in Kaberamido district on financial literacy knowledge.

The five-day training, which ended on Friday at Kaberamido Hotel, was closed by James Bukulu, the Deputy Director of the National Payment System, who represented the Governor, Bank of Uganda.

Bakulu explained that the training was organised by the Central Bank in conjunction with Jane Francis Amongin, the NRM flag bearer for Kaberamido district, Woman Member of Parliament in the 2026 general election.

According to Bukulu, participants were taken through several key areas. These included loan management, insurance, savings culture, investment, planning for old age retirement, financial services providers, financial consumer protection, and digital financial literacy.

He emphasised that the program aimed at imparting knowledge and practical skills to empower participants to improve financial management at the community level.

Jane Francis Amongin noted that the training was her personal initiative and lobby, which she started while still serving as the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Moroto District. She thanked the Bank of Uganda for the partnership.

Amongin appealed to the authorities at the Bank to further support participants with projects that could help transform their financial livelihood. She stressed that such interventions are key in eradicating poverty at the household level.

She also challenged the participants to go back to their respective communities and become good ambassadors of the knowledge and skills acquired.
