The race for Oyam district woman Member of Parliament seat appears to have reached an extraordinary conclusion after two contenders withdrew interests.
Princess Prisca Odongo and Achan Jannette Proscovia on June 17 made the unprecedented decision to step down and pledge their full support to Jane Frances Acilo.
The decision was made during a meeting hosted by Acilo, and included NRM structural leaders of Myene and Kamdini sub-counties.
They were given a tour of Abja farms, which represents the foundation of Acilo’s vision for grassroots development.
“The event concluded with a groundbreaking declaration of unity,” Acilo political and campaign office said Tuesday.
Acilo’s office described it as a powerful gesture of solidarity effectively making Acilo the preferred NRM candidate for woman Member of Parliament for Oyam district.
It (the office) added that the unified support sends a clear message of strength, shared purpose, and unwavering commitment to the people of Oyam.
“With a collective vision for transformation, Acilo is well-positioned to continue leading Oyam with integrity, commitment, and dedication to grassroots empowerment.
“This moment marks a new chapter of unity and leadership within the NRM party in Oyam,” the statement added.
tndNews understands that Acilo is scheduled for nomination on June 20 at NRM party electoral office in Kampala.
