The police in Lira City East Division are actively investigating a disturbing case of aggravated defilement involving a five-year-old girl. She is a top class learner at a local nursery school.

According to SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the North Kyoga Region, preliminary findings reveal that the victim was allegedly lured from her home and dragged into a nearby bush on the evening of July 28, 2025.

The suspect, identified as Odyek Brian, 22, is a resident of Agwentangwet “B” Cell, Ngetta Ward, Lira City East Division. The “devilish young man” has since been arrested.

SP Okema stated that the suspect is currently detained at Lira City East Division Police headquarters, while the victim has undergone medical examination and is receiving PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) and psychosocial support.

He added that further investigations are ongoing to strengthen the case file before submission to the Resident City State Attorney (RCSA) for legal guidance.

Furthermore, the police strongly condemned the horrific act, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring that justice is served without fear or favor.

Authorities in Lira City are collaborating with community stakeholders, local leaders, and child protection agencies to safeguard the victim’s welfare and expedite the prosecution process.

The police urged parents, guardians, and the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior involving minors. “Let us all take collective responsibility in protecting our children from harm,” Okema emphasized.

The suspect will face charges of aggravated defilement, which carries a maximum penalty of death upon conviction.
