In late 2024, dozens of Oyam South constituents told tndNews that the next Member of Parliament they will elect to represent them from 2026 should be “available throughout.”
Their demand came in response to Betty Amongi, their MP and Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, leaving early for Lira City.
From Kamdini to Myene, Minakulu to Aber, and Loro, elderly and young people felt abandoned by their legislator, Amongi, before 2026.
They believe that any elected official, including MPs across Lango sub-region should serve for the full duration of their term. Looking ahead, an assurance has been guaranteed to the worrying voters of Oyam South.
Opito Moses, an aspirant for the NRM party’s Oyam South MP seat, told tndNews that Oyam South, Oyam, and Lango in general are “where his heart is.”
According to Opito, Oyam South is entitled to the greatest leadership and service. “Oyam South deserves to be represented. I have already offered myself and pledged to them (the people).

“People-centeredness will be the hallmark of my representation,” he stated. If elected in 2026, he declared, “I will not do anything to dishonor the votes.”
To ensure that the people of Oyam South keep up with the rest, Opito will continue to support various associations and SACCOs, as well as improve access to clean water and road networks.
Opito, a professional surveyor and lawyer, stated that during his term as Peoples’ Representative, he will not tolerate land conflict or grabbing.
He intends to assist residents of Oyam South and Lango in general in obtaining land titles so that they can protect their lands.

recently.
“Land is one thing we as Lango are passionate about. Land supports us in many ways and this is why I will ensure it’s protected and communities live in harmony.”
On service delivery, he stated that it should never be a second thought but rather a requirement for all who have the mandate of the people.
“The NRM government has done a lot, and continues to do so; however, our people are still not receiving the services they require. This will be my area of interest,” Opito told tndNews.
“I am Moses,” he said in reference to the Biblical Moses. “I have been given the task of leading Oyam South to the promised land.”
Although he is currently focused on Oyam South, Opito has put his weight behind the promoters, each of whom is advocating for the establishment of Aber district.
In an interview with QFM radio on May 19, he called on the people of Oyam to rise up and say, “We want Aber district.”
“It is a good thing, and I support it,” he stated. “I remember when Imat Hon. Beatrice Lagada and other MPs introduced the Aber district concept. You are aware that there has recently been a lack of leadership, which is why the Aber district has been delayed.
“But I am confident that we, the people of Oyam, will get this through our party systems and the masses. The president and parliament will certainly grant Aber a district.”

In recent weeks, the government, specifically President Museveni Yoweri, has received widespread calls for Aber to be granted district status.
Former Oyam South MP Isaah Otto Amiza, opinion leader Vincent I Oling, and Oyam North MP Dr. Eunice Apio Otuko have taken the lead in demanding that Aber district be granted.
