Akol

Amolatar | On May 26, 2025, a spirit of generosity and community development was palpable at St. James Akol Church of Uganda (COU) in Amolatar as Kyoga North constituency MP hopeful Okodo Peter made significant contributions.

The contribution is toward the completion of the Reverend’s residence at Akol Vicarage. His donations included shs2 million and a tipper truck for sand collection, which are vital for the project’s progress.

During a fundraising drive aimed at soliciting further support for this important initiative, Okodo also purchased a bull worth shs1 million to support the Mother Union project, exemplifying his commitment to both local development and community welfare.

Okodo expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Christians for their tremendous contributions towards finishing the vicar’s residence. “Your support has been invaluable,” he said, urging everyone to consider the leaders they choose in future elections.

“Select those who value you as individuals and not merely as voters. We need leaders who prioritize the community’s wellbeing.”

Okodo also emphasized the importance of education, calling on parents to send their children to school.

“Akol is looking forward to educating many children for great development,” he remarked, recognizing that a well-educated generation is crucial for the region’s future.

In his sermon, Rev. Canon Denis Obonyo echoed this sentiment, stating, “No one should be left behind if there is to be peace.” His message reinforced the need for collective effort and inclusion within the community.

Thanking Okodo for his vital contributions, Archdeacon of Awelo, Rev. Canon Sam Otim Ogwang highlighted the significance of such donations in fostering development.

“We appreciate your support of shs2 million and the tipper for sand, which will greatly aid in finishing the reverend’s residence,” he stated. He further encouraged all Christians to contribute whatever little they can as every effort counts toward achieving communal goals.

The event was a testament to the power of community spirit and collaboration in Akol, showcasing how committed individuals like Okodo Peter and supportive church leaders can drive positive change.
