Kampala | President Yoweri Museveni has officially welcomed two Members of Parliament from the Lango sub-region: Omara Paul of Otuke County and Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti of Kole North into the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
President Yoweri Museveni convened the NRM Parliamentary Caucus at State House on Friday to strategize for the nationwide May 6 village Barazas, directing leaders to intensify oversight of government programs and root out corruption.
President tasked MPs with explaining NRM achievements at village barazas: “Citizens demand accountability—we must deliver,” Museveni asserted, on the closer tracking of PDM, Emyooga, and infrastructure.
The President, through Government Chief Whip who doubles as Ajuri County MP, Denis Hamson Obua, praised the two legislators for “choosing development-oriented politics.”
Their move strengthens NRM’s presence in Lango ahead of the 2026 elections. Both MPs won their seats as independents but now align with NRM ideologies and policies.
Richard Todwong, NRM Secretary General appreciated MPs Omara and Dr. Opio for recognizing NRM’s transformative agenda.
“Their decision reflects the party’s unifying vision,” he said.
Dr. Opio Acuti said joining NRM will allow him to better serve his people through government programs like road construction, health centers, and youth empowerment.
“We thank you, Your Excellency, for unifying Uganda. Your leadership has brought peace and programs like PDM that uplift our people,” he added.
MP Omara said, “NRM’s development footprint is unmatched. We’ll amplify these successes in our constituencies.”
He added that Otuke County in the last 3 years has wintnessed the upgrade of two Health Centres, the construction of major district and community roads, the preparation for extension of electricity to the rural communities which include schools, town councils and health centres and the government support to SACCOs through PDM and Emyogga.
“With these progress, it’s only befitting that we joined NRM to help us complete many other programmes which is yet to be completed. Otuke has been the vanguard of rebels attacks and insecurity in Lango and as such we were left behind on matters of development,” Omara stated.
“For us the focus is now on strengthening peace, unity and national development. NRM being government in power, will help us to deliver on our Development aspirations.”
“When leaders unite under a common vision, the people benefit most,” Government Chief Whip and Ajuri MP, said.

The Lango above MPs have joined their colleagues from Acholi sub-region: Ojara Mapenduzi and Anthony Akol who have both joined the NRM party recently.
