Oyam | Jane Frances Acilo continued her community empowerment initiative on Friday, making major stops in Iceme sub-county, Oyam district.
Acilo, who is expected to be elected the NRM party flag bearer for Oyam district woman MP ahead of the 2026 general elections, met with hundreds of Iceme residents, including farmers.
Eradicating poverty in the district, both now and during her tenure as a woman MP, is one of her many goals.
Commercial agriculture is high on her agenda. She has opened the doors to her Abja farms in Myene sub-county for farmers and those interested in commercial and smart agriculture to learn from.
Last month during the belated Women’s Day celebrations for Oyam, she launched the distribution of improved maize seeds to farmers throughout Oyam.
At least 15,000 kilogrammes of seeds will be distributed to beneficiaries in 16 sub-counties, she said on March 30.
On April 4, hundreds of happy-looking electorates received assistance, and they were promised ready markets by Abja farms director once harvests were completed.
Acilo told ‘Icemeans’ that her primary goal is to eradicate poverty. Poverty, she stated, has crippled many farmers in the district.
She advised farmers to form or be under cooperatives for easy and coordinated support.
The day (Friday) was more than just about distributing maize seeds; it was also about Jane outlining her manifesto as she seeks to retain the NRM party flag.

Meanwhile, Tom Acuma, NRM chairperson for Aleka sub-county, stated that the maize seeds being distributed by Acilo are timely and will increase household income in the near future.
