UPDF

The third batch of UPDF troops serving in Somalia under United Nations Guard Unit Eleven (UNGU-XI) have successfully completed camp security and induction training.

The training was designed to improve the effectiveness of UPDF troops in Somalia’s complex operational environment, with a focus on providing personnel with critical security skills and a thorough understanding of UN operations.

In a statement, UPDF said the training aimed to improve the troops’ ability to protect the UN compound, personnel, and assets from potential threats.

Meanwhile, the trainees were provided with an overview of the UN’s mandate in Somalia, introducing  them to the regulations that govern their role within UNGU.

Deputy UNGU-XI Commander Major Jacob Gowan Kaburika praised the trainees’ dedication and professionalism during the closing ceremony.

“You have demonstrated a high level of professionalism and dedication to your job. I am confident that you will make a positive impact on our operations here in Somalia,” he said.

Robert Beljan, representing the Chief of Training, praised the officers and troops for their discipline, cooperation, and hard work, and encouraged them to put their newly acquired skills to use in their operational duties.
