Motorists diverted after fatal crash on Gulu-Kampala highway

A fatal crash at Ngato Swamp on the Gulu-Kamdini highway in Oyam district has resulted in traffic disruption.

On March 12, 2025, at around 2:30 a.m., a trailer traveling towards Gulu developed mechanical issues, and while its driver was repairing it, another trailer collided with it.

According to a statement released on Wednesday morning, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, PRO of North Kyoga Region, the driver who was fixing his trailer was killed instantly.

The driver who struck the stationed truck was injured.

“The incident has completely blocked the road. Efforts are underway to tow the vehicles. Motorists on that route are advised to use the alternative routes to avoid delays,” SP Okema added.

Drivers heading to Gulu should detour via Minakulu town council and continue on to Oyam-Lira-Kamdini road.

Kampala-bound motorists are advised to divert at Kamdini-Atapara-Oyam road-Minakulu-Gulu Road.

Lira-bound motorists urged to use Aboke-Iceme Road in Oyam-Bobi-Gulu Road-Gulu.

Kampala-bound heavily loaded trucks: Divert from Kamdini-Aboke-Iceme-Bobi-Gulu highway.

Gulu-bound heavily loaded trucks: Divert from Bobi & follow the same route up to Kamdini.

“We urge motorists to exercise patience and discipline, and adhere to directives from officers on the ground,” Okema appealed.
