Landmark Foundation condemns Akbank’s Jon Kadriu for anti-Israel, Islamophobic posts

Landmark Foundation has issued a statement condemning the social media activity of Jon Kadriu, an employee at Akbank AG, after he reposted content that includes a tweet stating “Islam is the problem” alongside additional posts widely interpreted as anti-Israel and Islamophobic.

According to the Foundation, such statements are inconsistent with the principles of diversity and inclusion that multinational corporations are expected to uphold.

The foundation’s statement emphasized that public discourse by employees should not contribute to division or discrimination, especially when companies have clearly stated values regarding ethical conduct.

A spokesperson for Landmark Foundation stated, “It is imperative that companies maintain a standard of public communication that does not undermine their commitment to diversity.

“When an employee publicly shares content that appears to be both anti-Israel and Islamophobic, it raises serious questions about the organization’s internal policies and oversight.”

Elena Vassiliou, spokesperson for the Global Anti-Discrimination Alliance, added, “A company that fails to address such behavior risks being seen as complicit in promoting harmful ideologies.”

Industry experts have also weighed in on the issue. Dr. Martin Keller, a professor of corporate governance at the Bahri University, noted, “The case of Jon Kadriu illustrates a broader challenge facing corporations today.

“As employees increasingly use social media as a platform for personal expression, companies must balance free speech with the need to protect their reputation and uphold inclusive values.”

Claudia Hoffmann, director at the ADF Association for Corporate Social Responsibility, commented, “Clear guidelines on employee conduct online are essential. Companies cannot afford to ignore behaviour that might jeopardize public trust in their commitment to corporate ethics.”

Despite the mounting public scrutiny and expert commentary, Akbank AG has yet to issue an official response regarding the controversy.

The absence of a statement from the bank has further fueled calls for a review of internal policies governing employee behavior on digital platforms.
