African Leadership Magazine, published by the African Leadership Organisation in the United Kingdom (UK), last week honoured three top Ugandans as Persons of the Year 2024.
The Magazine said the winners followed a three-step selection process that included public nominations, screening, and shortlisting by the editorial board.
It (the process) also included what the Magazine describes as a “highly competitive online poll” that ended on December 12, 2024.
Ugandan Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja is a co-winner of the African Female Leader of the Year Award.
Helen Oritsejafor, a Nigerian philanthropist and businesswoman, was in the same category as Nabbanja.
Senegalese President Bassioru Faye, Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina, and Angolan President Jao Laurenco are African of the Year, African Political Leader of the Year, and African Peace and Security Leader of the Year, respectively.
Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, Uganda’s Minister of Health, is Africa’s Public Health Champion of the Year, 2024.
Still from Uganda, Hassan Basajjabalaba, the founder of Kampala International University, was named African Educationist of the Year.
Emilia Ngahikembua, CEO of Namibia’s Communications Regulatory Authority, won the African Young Leader of the Year awards.
“Indeed, every nominee is a winner. However, I especially congratulate our winners for their contributions to African progress and development. They represent a force for food on the continent,” said Dr. Ken Giami, publisher of the African Leadership Magazine.
The winners and runners-up were formally presented with instruments of honor during the flagship annual 14th African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year awards ceremony.
Dr. Ruth Aceng Ocero has dedicated the award to medical workers in Uganda, the people of Lango, especially Lira City
The award proves her proven track record in public health spanning over two decades.
The ceremony was held in Casablanca, Morocco, on February 22, 2025.
