At the 2024 Mkaziprenuer Impact Awards, one nominee out of five took first place.
Rebecca Akullu, the founder and CEO of NEWA Farms, has been named the most “outstanding woman entrepreneur in Northern Uganda” by Mkaziprenuer Impact.
NEWA Farms specializes in the production, processing, and value addition of bee products, as well as the development of cosmetics derived from them.
The company grows coffee on its 12-acre plot in Barapwo, Lira City West Division.
Akullu received this award for her significant contributions to empowering women, people with disabilities, and girls in Northern Uganda.
On December 18, 2024, Mkaziprenuer presented her with this award in recognition of her efforts to improve the well-being of her community.
Her company also trains women and girls in artisan skills, particularly the production of bee harvesting kits.
With more than 12 years of experience, Akullu is an alumnae of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) and the Young African Leaders Initiative Regional Leadership Center East Africa (YALI RLC EA), two USA exchange programs.
In her acceptance speech, Akullu stated that her initiatives have positively impacted the lives of over 3,020 people.
Akullu expressed her gratitude further, saying, “I am deeply honored to receive the Mkaziprenuer Impact Award as the outstanding female entrepreneur in Northern Uganda.”
“This recognition not only acknowledges my efforts but also underscores the commitment and diligence of my team. I am grateful to all who have supported me throughout this journey and to those who nominated me,” she continued.
“I commend Mkaziprenuer for hosting this event, which highlights the remarkable contributions of women entrepreneurs across Africa.”
The award ceremony took place at the Skyz Hotel in Naguru, Kampala, where Akullu graciously accepted the honor amid heartfelt congratulations from her peers.
