Kisoro district is now hot as the UPC and other political parties ramp up their vote-gathering efforts.
On Saturday, November 9, UPC party president Jimmy Akena, who also serves as Lira City East MP, arrived in the district to campaign for candidate Ingabire Mable.
Akena also paid a visit to the late Sarah Mateke’s father and comforted him over his daughter’s death.
Mateke was the district’s woman MP and the State Minister for Defence in charge of Veteran Affairs. Her death occurred in September.
In a by-election to replace Mateke, the UPC, NRM, and NUP all have candidates, as do those running on independent tickets.
Dr. Eunice Otuko Apio of Oyam North, Okello Lemba Nelson of Maruzi, and Aguti Sarah from Dokolo district have joined Akena in Kisoro.
Dr. Otuko and Aguti were both declared winners in by-elections held by the EC in Oyam and Dokolo districts, respectively.
Secretary General Fred Ebil has also joined the UPC’s campaign team.
Today, the congressmen and women are in Nakabando, Bufumbira East, and Kyaye, Bufumbira South.

Elections for a new woman MP will be held in Kisoro district on November 14.
