Lira | Uganda Technical College (UTC Lira) is ramping up final preparations for the fifth annual Talent Search event.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024, and will primarily focus on empowering youths for a better tomorrow through talent search.
The revelation was made during a press briefing at UTC on Tuesday.
The event, organized by the 2024-2025 Guild Government of UTC Lira, will be held under the theme “Empowering the Youth for a Better Tomorrow through Talent Search.”
The theme supplements UNESCO’s “Empowering Young People in Higher and Tertiary Institutions to Support Health Concerns.”
Aaron Odong, the Guild cabinet speaker, emphasised that the event is not discriminatory and confirmed full participation.
“The event is open to people with disabilities (PWDs) and all genders. “Any student from the participating institutions will be able to participate,” he explained.
Each participating institution will nominate two participants per category to compete in news anchoring, modeling, debating, public speaking, poetry, and eating competitions, among other activities.
The event is expected to attract students from a variety of institutions, including Lira University, Victoria School of Nursing, Uganda Christian Institute (UCI), King James School of Nursing, Good Samaritan School of Nursing, and Jerusalem Institute of Health Sciences.
Others include All Saints University Lango, Uganda Martyrs University Ngetta, and National Instructors College Abilonino.
Jackson Munguomiyo anticipates full participation of 2000-3000 students, with local security provided by students and assistance from external security, including the police.
Meanwhile, in response to the eating competition, Symeon Amanzu Erima stated that specific foods will be prepared for the competitors while health complications are monitored.
Jennifer Driciru, the first female Guild President of UTC Lira, emphasizes that the event is only for students.
“We have narrowed this event to only students to avoid conflicts and insecurity issues that may arise due to outsiders,” adds Driciru.
Sponsors for the fifth edition of the Talent Search include QFM 94.3, City Sounds, and the Rotary Club.
