Kampala |On Thursday, Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, Commander Land Force, flagged off the Fourth Aviation Component, which will replace the Third Aviation Component.
The third component is currently serving on a peacekeeping mission in Somalia as part of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia, following a successful year-long mission.
The ceremony was held at the Soroti Air Force Wing.
Addressing the officers and men, Lt Gen Muhanga emphasized the importance of discipline and physical fitness as critical components of success.
“If you want to push your limits, discipline and regular physical activity are essential,” he said.
“When you maintain discipline, success will come knocking on closed doors,” emphasizing the importance of good health, which can be achieved through physical activity, for field performance.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Commander Air Force Maj Gen David Isimbwa, on behalf of the Commander Air Force, praised the trainees’ dedication and wished them success on their upcoming mission.
Col Solomon Andiandu commands the Fourth Aviation Component, and Lt Col Pascal Bariine serves as his deputy.
The Aviation Component, which was first deployed to Somalia on October 15, 2020, has played a critical role in peacekeeping operations by providing airlift services for troop deployments, supply transportation, and casualty evacuation.
