3 Lira footballers died on spot, 10 admitted after fatal road accident

Dokolo – Three footballers of Amac sub-county, Erute South in Lira district were on Sunday, 21 October confirmed dead after a lorry tipper truck registration number UBD 471T they were traveling in lost control and overturned.

The incident happened at around 4:00pm on Lira Soroti highway just after Olweny swamp near Adwoki trading centre in Dokolo district.

Dan Ogwang an eye witness said the lorry number UBD 471T which was over speeding lost control, overturned, killing one a-yet-to-be identified on spot.

He said other two unidentified players died on reaching Dokolo Health Center IV and about ten players with critical injuries were taken to the same health facility on a vehicle belonging to National Water Sewerage Corporation Lira area.

The players were from Ateri village in Amac and were going for a soccer match in Dokolo town.

North Kyoga regional police spokesman, David Odong Mudong confirmed the incident but said he had not got any details of deceased and survivors.

“It will come up shortly in the police update,” Mudong briefly told this news website.
