Lira |Police have warned the people of Lango sub-region (North Kyoga) not to take the law into their own hands.
This warning comes after the tragic death of a 34-year-old man, who was allegedly killed by a mob in Dokolo for reasons unknown, according to police reports.
The mob-related murder occurred on October 2, 2024, at around 9:40 a.m. in Akwayo village, Alyejuk parish, Agwata sub-county.
It was reported by Otim Peter Ayo, 72, the village’s LCII chairman.
SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the regional police PRO, identified the victim as Otim Calvin, of Alworo village, Alworo parish, Amach sub-county, Lira.
He stated that police attempted to save the victim’s life. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered the individual severely beaten but still alive.
Otim was then taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment, where he was later pronounced dead.

His corpse was then taken to the Dokolo HCIV mortuary for a postmortem examination.
No arrests have been made thus far, and the circumstances surrounding the assault are unclear, per SP Okema.

The police have expressed what it calls “their deep concern about such acts of violence”, emphasizing “their dismay at the persistence of individuals who take the law into their own hands, despite ongoing calls for lawful behavior.”
