In 2022, for example, UPDF and sister security agencies recovered 291 guns and killed 393 warriors in Karamoja sub-region.
Karenga | This year, as in previous years, the UPDF has killed a number of warriors during their operations.
Dozens have been killed, and dozens of weapons have been recovered, with a number of them surrendering.
In a recent decisive intelligence-led operation, joint security forces claimed to have neutralized two notorious warriors and recovered an SMG gun number H9211 with 27 live rounds of ammunition in Karenga district, Karamoja sub-region.
The two notorious warriors have been identified as Issa Lokuria and Lemukol Lopiringole, both from Lolelia sub-county in Kaabong district.
Tayal Korianga, their accomplice, was apprehended alive and is currently in the custody of the UPDF.
The operation, which included a fire exchange, took place on September 25, 2024, at approximately 1:20pm. It targeted criminal hideouts in Lokodope village, Naoyagum parish, Kawalakol sub-county.
The UPDF stated that the group had camped for a few days while plotting “appalling crimes against humanity.”

“The slain warrior Issa led his criminal group for many years and was responsible for terrorizing innocent people in the sub-counties of Kathile, Lolelia, Sangar, Karenga, Morungole, and Kawalakol,” Maj Isaac Oware, 3 Division’s Public Information Officer, said.
He continued, “The group is also known for criminal alliances with elements in South Sudan, engaged in cross-border smuggling of small arms and ammunition, and poaching of wild game in Kidepo Valley National Park.”
Major Oware stated that the deaths of these warriors are the result of constant pursuit by security forces and local leadership’s persuasive efforts to persuade the group to take advantage of the existing Amnesty window.
“Joint security forces remain committed to ensuring the prevalence of security and peace in the Karamoja sub-region, as well as defending the Republic of Uganda’s territorial integrity,” Major Oware stated.
