Minister Aceng praised as Lango health camp ends

Lira | Dr. Prof. Justus Baragaine Kafunjo, President of the Uganda Gynaecology Association, has urged female Members of Parliament to prioritise women’s health in their respective regions.

He made the announcement while concluding a five-day women’s and children’s health camp organised by Lira City’s female Member of Parliament, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero.

Dr. Aceng, who is also the Minister of Health, collaborated with Uganda’s Gynaecologists and Surgeons Association to facilitate the camp.

Women’s health concerns are starting to burden many households—including the government, according to Dr. Bargaine. As Dr. Jane did, a number of free health camps must be arranged in order to lessen the burden.

He stated that such health camps benefit those who cannot afford to pay for specialists because they are free of charge.

The Lango health camp, which attracted over 5000 women from the sub-region and beyond, was attended to by various health specialists.

Dr. Andrew Odur, the team leader at the camp, stated that the large number of patients present demonstrated the need for health specialists in health units to handle various health complications affecting women.

The beneficiaries praised Dr. Aceng, the health camp convenor, saying the camp helped them with something they could not afford.

The Assistant Resident City Commissioner of Lira, Bonny Ferdinand Okello Alele, stated that the NRM government is fighting for a healthy population as a means of combating household challenges.

Okello Alele, who dubbed Minister Aceng a “hunter,” emphasised the importance of having leaders who are pro-development and supportive of government ideas and missions.

Dr. Aceng thanked women for always being open about their health issues, in contrast to men, in an address to thousands of patients and the community of Lira City and beyond.

She stated that the large number of people who attended the camp demonstrates the need for specialised doctors rather than general health workers.

“As a government, we will recruit and train many specialists to handle such cases in the country,” she promised, adding that the government has prepared the ground by opening up structures, planning for a large number of specialists, and developing service plans.

The Lira City woman MP stated that the government’s current priority is to find resources to pay salaries and those who will retire from the service.

Aceng expects these to be completed in the near future.

In order for household development projects in Lango to be successful, she advised the people to put their health first.
