Serere | The Serere Police are investigating the suspected strangulation of Akello Mary, a 42-year-old casual worker from Odungura Egadu village, Odungura parish, Olio sub-county, Serere district.
Mary, who was originally from the Katakwi district, was discovered dead on the night of August 5-6, 2024.
On August 6, 2024, around 5:00 p.m., concerned neighbours contacted the local LC1 chairperson after not seeing her all day.
The chairperson used a stick to open Mary’s door and discovered her lifeless body. Epielu Daniel, 51, a peasant who lives in the same village, reported the incident to the police.
Serere Police Station recorded the case as CRB: 389/2024. The homicide team went to the scene, collected evidence, and recorded several statements.
Mary’s body has been transported to Serere Health Centre IV for postmortem examination.
ASP Obukulem Edison, PRO for East Kyoga, confirmed that no arrests have been made.
He urges the community to remain vigilant and provide authorities with timely information so that they can respond quickly.
Obukulem promises to provide further updates as new developments arise.
On July 28, a woman in Serere was strangled to death and investigations into her death had begun.
