Lira | North Kyoga Region – comprising all the local administrative units in Lango sub-region have given an update regarding mob crimes.
In this update by SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, PRO of the region, the territorial police in Lira City West Division are investigating a suspected mob murder that occurred on the night of July 25, 2024.
The crime took place at Starch Factory ‘A’ cell Kirombe Ward, Lira City West Division.
According to SP Okema, it is claimed that on the night of July 25, 2024, at an unknown time, the deceased and two others, all unidentified, were discovered and suspected of stealing goats near the starch factory cell.
When the community was alerted and responded to the scene, two suspects escaped, and only the deceased was apprehended.
He was later beaten severely and dumped along the roadside unconscious.

“Police were notified by phone, and a team led by the OC CID Lira City West Division Police homicide, Scene of Crime Officers, responded to the scene and discovered the body lying by the roadside.
The body was picked up and transported to Lira Regional Referral Hospital and taken to the mortuary pending postmortem, added Okema.
A case of murder by mob was registered, and investigations are underway.
“Efforts to locate the suspects are ongoing.
“This is the third murder case by a mob in the region in just one week, following two cases in Oyam district: Kamdini and Iceme, respectively.
“We continue to urge members of the public to respect the law and avoid taking it into their own hands; instead, arrest and hand over suspects to police, and assist police with investigations so that suspects can be charged in court,” PRO SP Okema appealed.
