Kidepo: Uganda kills South Sudanese poachers who killed her 2 buffalos

Moroto | Four suspected South Sudanese poachers were killed on July 19, 2024, around 7 a.m., on Moru-etom hill in Kidepo Valley National Park in Karenga district.

They were killed in an intelligence-led operation involving joint security forces. Suspected South Sudanese nationals had entered the Park (country) via porous borders.

When they arrived at the park, they began hunting for wildlife products and were successful in killing two buffalos. IP Longole Mike, the acting Public Relations Officer for Mt. Moroto and the Anti Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), stated.

He added that the joint forces continue to monitor the national game park.

The poachers were then confronted by joint security forces, who engaged in a serious exchange of fire with 10 suspected poachers.

“Their intention in Uganda was to kill wild animals in the park, and as a result, four poachers were put out of action, and four guns, five bows, and ten arrows were recovered,” Longole stated.

The recovered guns were: 01458 bolt carrier with 02 rounds of ammunition, 3930-/1 YK0800 with 1 round of ammunition, and 38617 /C1M with 00 rounds of ammunition.

Bolt carrier 6758/bolt 62912 had 00 round of ammunition.

About Kidepo National Park

The national park is located in the north Eastern part of Uganda, boardering Sudan and Kenya.

The buffalos in Kidepo are “unique accountable due to numerous herds”, according to Kidepo National Park.
