Lira | On Friday afternoon, a fire gutted the boys dormitory at VH public primary school in Lira City.
The fire has left numerous pupils devastated after losing their belongings.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m., while pupils from various classes were sitting their exams.
Pupils’ belongings, including books, mattresses, and clothes have been reduced to ashes.
When the fire broke out, both teachers and pupils were inside their classrooms. They heard a loud blast from the dormitory, followed by the rapid spread of massive flames.
The staff immediately notified the police fire brigade, which responded quickly to extinguish the flames. Head teacher Jacob Odur stated that the police fire and rescue team responded quickly to contain the situation.
He claimed that the fire was caused by a solar battery, which was one of the only power sources used in the boys’ dormitory.
When some parents including the public learned of the fire, they rushed to the school.
Odur urged parents to remain calm because there were no casualties or injuries reported in connection with the incident.
Police have yet to release a statement.
