82 passed fit from Oyam to join UPDF

Oyam

Oyam | UPDF Team Six reports that 82 of the shortlisted candidates from Oyam district were recruited during the recruitment exercise held on Friday, July 12 at Florence Nightingale Nursing School in Apac district.

Only 97 of the 140 shortlisted candidates went to the recruitment centre for vetting and final medical exams.

43 candidates were absent and did not participate in the exercise for unknown reasons. Six candidates were disqualified for presenting falsified Uganda Certificate of Education transcripts.

They were handed over to Oyam’s District Internal Security Officer, Adam Jaffer Elyas. The district’s Assistant RDC, Ocen Patrick, and the GISO of Ngai sub-county, Okello Stephen, were also present.

According to Capt. Kato Ahmad Hassan, Team Six’s spokesperson and Public Information Officer for the UPDF 4 Infantry Division, 91 people were fully screened for in-depth medical examinations and other tests.

According to Kato, only 82 of the 91 fully screened individuals in Oyam district were enrolled in the UPDF based on the quota.

“Their eligibility was determined after a thorough screening of their academic credentials and other particulars, which included National Identity Cards, Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), medical and physical test examinations, and other screenings set as a maximum standard by the UPDF to ensure the right recruits are enrolled in the forces,” he added.

On Friday, the potential ninety-seven recruit candidates from Oyam met early in the morning at Nightingale Nursing School, a military recruitment centre.

“Many of these, however, had their hopes dashed when they were rejected due to a lack of National Identity Cards and UCE certificates, as well as a physical medical examination and a 4 km physical run test, which are required for those seeking to join the army.”

Many were rejected because they failed the military drills.

The exercise will conclude on July 13 in Kole district, with only 52 UPDF recruits.

Meanwhile, UPDF Team Six’s recruitment exercise in East Acholi began on July 5, 2024 and will end on July 14.
