Apac |Police in the Apac district arrested two officers and three other suspects in connection with the alleged attempted murder of a civilian.

Ayomu Paul, 20, a resident of Tebu cell, Tebu Ward, Apac Municipality, was saved by mercy.

The incident occurred around 4:06 p.m. on July 11, 2024, at Nightingale Cell, Duluwero Ward, Akere Division, Apac Municipality.

North Kyoga Regional Police PRO, SP Jimmy Okema stated that Deputy Inspector of Police Ekwire Patrick, 56, reported and registered the case with the police.

Ekwire is a police officer attached to Apac Central Police Station.

On July 11, 2024, at approximately 2:20 p.m., two police officers—PC Nasasira Ambrose and CPL Oguna Tonny—are said to have been booked out of the station to arrest Ogwal Jimmy at Nightingale cell, Duluwero Ward, Akere Division in Apac Municipality, on charges of grievous harm.

SP Okema stated that when the officers arrived at the suspect’s location, they encountered resistance from other members of the public, resulting in chaos, and one Ayomu Paul attempted to disarm PC Nasasira Ambrose.

“In self-defense, the officer shot him in the leg,” the PRO said.

A case of attempted murder has been opened against the two police officers, as well as a case of obstructing police officers while on duty, against the following:

  • Ogwal Jimmy, 54, a peasant and resident of Tebu cell, Agulu ward, Apac Municipality.
  • No. RA 2416 73 Private Otim Solomon, 26, a UPDF soldier attached to SFC Nebbi.
  • Oloyo Moses, 32, is a boda boda rider from Apac Municipality.

A group of homicide and Scene of Crime officers went to the crime scene. All of the suspects were arrested and detained at CPS Apac.

Okema said the victim rushed to Apac Main Hospital for treatment. “Statements obtained from the eyewitnesses.

“All the files shall be compiled and submitted to the Resident City State Attorney for perusal and legal advice upon completion of investigation with evidence.

SP Okema described the incident as “really very unfortunate that members of the public today lack respect for police officers while on duty.”

“We encourage members of the public to always respect and accept being taken to the police station for a statement recording so that an investigation can be conducted on the allegations for which you are being arrested and then released if no evidence is found against you.”

Apac CPS has recorded an attempted murder case (CRB 463/2024).
