Lira |Ojan Moses, 41, has been arrested by Lira district police for alleged murder. He lives in Olia village, Ayami sub-county Lira district.
His accomplices, including the village LC1 chairperson, are still at large, according to SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, North Kyoga’s PRO.
Ojan was arrested after a mob allegedly murdered 17-year-old Ojan Lawrence from the same village.
The crime under investigation occurred on July 26, 2024, around 10 a.m.
Ojan Lawrence is accused of kidnapping a 12-year-old child on July 25. He was arrested on July 26, 2024, by some members of the community.
His alleged motive for kidnapping was human sacrifice. “During an interview, he revealed that he was contracted by a Gulu-based traditional healer to obtain a child for sacrifice,” SP Okema said.
After hearing that information, the community members became hostile, and he was beaten until unconscious.
Police were notified, and a team responded to the scene, according to Okema. Scene of Crime Officers documented the incident, and some witnesses provided statements.
When police arrived at the scene, the alleged kidnapping victim was not present.
The police have received no reports of kidnappings or disappearances.
According to Okema, arrangements were being made to transport the deceased body to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examination.
